If you haven’t made plans for the weekend, here are a few great events that are coming to the HAM!
Festival: Forest Park’s annual Spring Fling event, a fundraiser for UAB’s Breast Cancer Foundation. Wear pink to show your support. All merchants will be selling $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win a basketful of Forest Park merchants’ goods and gift certificates valued at over $350. Neighborhood stores will stay open late; enjoy music and entertainment throughout the village. 3815 Clairmont Avenue. Details: www.nakedartusa.com
♦ Birds/Wildlife: The Alabama Wildlife Center, the state’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center, is hosting its first annual “Baby Bird Shower.” Between April and September each year, AWC receives up to 900 injured and orphaned baby birds. The purpose of the event is to educate the community on the needs of native baby birds and encourage the public to do what they can to help. All visitors are invited to bring a gift for the birds; a wish list can be downloaded from http://www.awrc.org. Those interested in volunteering can also sign up for the next Animal Care Volunteer Orientation or learn about other volunteer opportunities. A wide range of activities will be offered, including wildlife presentations, observation of feedings and care in the Baby Bird Nursery, guided tours of Treetop Nature Trail (elevated boardwalk in the woods where non-releasable native raptors are housed), games for children, T-shirts, and homemade goodies to purchase, charitable donation raffle, and more. 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Admission to AWC is free, but there is a small park entrance fee. Alabama Wildlife Center, 100 Terrace Drive, Oak Mountain State Park, Pelham. Details: www.awrc.org.
